Church of the Cross seeks to blend the richness of 2000 years of Christian history with an understanding of how it relates to our everyday lives. If you have any questions about our church, please contact us at 952-933-3686. We have provided the answers to some frequently asked questions below. What does in mean that you are Anglican? To be Anglican means that we are a part of a communion of churches which trace their history back to the Reformation of England in the 1500s. Anglican churches can be found all over the world and tend to be marked by a belief in the reliability of scripture, and appreciation for ancient Christian traditions, and the use of a liturgy. You are part of a group called the Anglican Mission in America. Who are they? The Anglican Mission in America (AMiA) began in 2000 in response to the unbiblical beliefs of many of the leaders of the Episcopal Church (which is the primary expression of the Anglican Church in the Unites States). It is a mission with a focus on Evangelism and Church Planting. AMiA bishops are Americans who are under the authority of African and Asian Anglican bishops. Back to Top What do you believe? For Anglicans the details of our doctrinal beliefs are found in The Book of Common Prayer (we have copies to borrow). In this you will find the ancient Creeds (p. 301, 358, 864) an Outline of the Faith (p. 845-862), and the 39 Articles of Religion (p. 867-876). These Creeds and Articles articulate our belief in the authority of scripture, the divinity of Christ, and the bodily resurrection among other things. Why do you use a liturgy and where did it come from? We use a liturgy because it helps to root us in the ancient patterns of worship of the Jewish Temple and of the early church. Much of our current Anglican liturgy was compiled and written by Thomas Cranmer, an English Reformer of the 16th Century. Why do you take communion every week? We believe that as we partake of communion in faith we are built up and strengthened in our walk with God (just as we are through the study of the Bible, worship and Christian community). Celebrating communion every week centers us in the objective truth of Christ?s death and resurrection. It is our belief that children should be welcomed into the community of faith as Jesus taught when he said, ?Let the little children come to me.? To learn more about our view of baptism please read our baptism statement. What is the story behind Church of the Cross? Church of the Cross began as a church plant sponsored by the Anglican Mission in America and by Church of the Resurrection in Wheaton, IL. There were no previous AMIA churches in the Twin Cities, and the rapid growth of the area pointed to a clear need for new churches. In October of 2003 a small group of leaders began to develop steps to fulfill the vision and mission of this new church. For 10 months a ministry plan was implemented and additional leaders were recruited and trained, building up to regular services in Fall 2004. What is the story behind your building? Church of the Cross bought our church building in July of 2004. Our desire in buying the building was not only to have a space for our worship and ministry, but also as a means of being a blessing to our neighborhood and larger community. Before us the building belonged to Bet Shalom synagogue, who used it for 18 years. Are you going to ask me for money? That depends. If you are visiting Church of the Cross and still deciding whether you want to get involved, please feel no obligation to give. However if you see Church of the Cross as your home church, we encourage you to consider giving to the ministry of the church. We say this not only because we need the giving in order to sustain our ministries, but because giving is a essential component of growing in Christ.
